Our Sinhalese adventure took us from the capital Colombo to Habarana, followed by the ancient capitals of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. Heading South, we visited the rock fortress of Sigiriya and the caves of Dambulla, then continued to misty Kandy, home to the Temple of the Tooth. After a brief stop at Pinnawala’s Elephant Orphanage, we embarked on a magnificent train ride to Ella. Following a few days resting and feeling the exotic warmth of Sri Lanka, we moved to Yala National Park for a safari. Finally, we arrived in Mirissa and stopped running for a week, enjoying ginger beer, blue whales and the company of friendly people. We made an excursion to Weligama Bay in order to see Taprobane Island, and spent our last night in Sri Lanka in Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia, so we could take the plane home the next day.
